Nicole Fiorentino’s interview in Bass Guitar Magazine is now available to download, along with a short interview with Billy talking about his bass playing over the years in the Smashing Pumpkins.
Thanks to Saeed on the Smashing Pumpkins forum.
We’ve had a number of media outlets contact us asking this question. After Billy updated last week with a tweet of:
“Just found out the weirdest news: our bass player Nicole (@xocoleyf) just admitted she is one of the girls on the Siamese Dream cover”
The story was picked up by some small music sites, then NME, then Rolling Stone and the trend continued. We haven’t mentioned it here because this isn’t news, any Smashing Pumpkins fan or person who can visit Nicole’s wikipedia page could see just based on her year of birth that she was 13 years old when Siamese Dream was released and therefore she would have been 13 years old when the photo was taken. Much older than the two girls on the cover.
Looking into this further, reading forums and fan sites more facts dispute this claim. This was nothing more than Billy posting a tweet as a joke. If “journalists” and “bloggers” did their research before posting this they would have picked up Corgan’s joke. Perhaps Billy needed to close with a </sarcasm> tag to make it obvious?
Now close friend in Pumpkinland, Kat Turner, tweeted on the same night this bombshell:
”@MikeByrneDrums dropped a bombshell on us! He was the baby on the cover of “Nevermind”! Wtf is going on??”
We hope this makes it clear. Please send this around and point out lazy journalism.

According to an update on Nicole Fiorentino Facebook page, she is recording vocal parts today for the current batch of Smashing Pumpkins songs. Sounds like the band have had a few promising weeks in the studio before they head out on tour.
Also Nicole will be in Bass Guitar Magazine, the December issue. So keep an eye out for that.
